Encoded Archival Description is the new thing, the thing you need to know inside and out. Although it has evolved in the past decade from an sgml standard to xml to schema, and although it has not been perfectly stable, EAD is now considered essential to securing an entry-level position in the field and despite some remaining “controversy” (which we will want discuss), you need to know it. Live it, love it, learn it.
